Silvernagle hopes to bring momentum to 2019 Viterra Scotties Provincials

Jan 21, 2019 | 12:00 PM

North Battleford’s Robyn Silvernagle hopes the third time is the charm heading into this week’s 2019 Viterra Scotties Provincials.

Silvernagle’s rink is coming off a successful Meridian Canadian Open, which saw the foursome qualify in their very first Grand Slam event at the civic centre. Team members hope to carry that successful momentum into the Scotties and erase the past two years of coming up short in the final game.

Silvernagle said their approach won’t be much different, but with the extra experience, she’s ready for the challenge.

“You learn something every time you’re in those games,” she said. “We’ve played in those games now; it’s a matter of growing from that.”

The rink kicks off their competition at 2 p.m. tomorrow when they take on Regina’s Jessica Mitchell. They will be playing two games per day leading up into Saturday’s play downs, leading up to Sunday’s semi-finals and finals.

When asked if there were any teams that jumped off the page for them, Silvernagle was blunt in saying she and her teammates are focused on playing their game, no matter the opponent.

“It’s the top teams in Saskatchewan, (they’re) definitely all good teams,” she said. “We’ll have to be playing or best because they’ll all for sure be gunning for us.”

The foursome comes into competition ranked first in the province, and they know that they will have somewhat of a bullseye on their back when it comes to the matchups.
