Silvernagle clinches first, Scotties Viterra Women’s playoffs set

Jan 26, 2019 | 2:37 PM

Nine teams started at the 2019 Scotties Viterra Women’s Provincial Curling Championships in Humboldt, now four remain.

The playoff bracket is finalized, after Team Silvernagle emerged from the wolfpack tie at the top to clinch first place, setting up a rematch of last year’s final against Team Anderson.

Team Silvernagle won both their matches in the eighth and ninth draw, including the eighth draw against Team Eberle which saw them come back from a 5-0 deficit after four ends and 8-6 heading into the tenth.

Robyn Silvernagle, team skip, told northeastNOW she’s relieved her team has made the playoffs, but mentioned she plans to use experience from last year’s defeat to Team Anderson in the finals to prepare her squad this go around.

“Every time you’re in a final you learn different things,” Silvernagle said. “You just get the feeling of being in that final. We’ve done it the last two years, hopefully we can win it this year.”

Team Silvernagle (7-1) will play the second placed Team Anderson (6-2) on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at Elgar Petersen Arena, with the winner moving on to the finals on Sunday. The loser will face the winner of Team Holland (5-3) v. Team Streifel (5-3) at 2 p.m. in the semi-final on Sunday at noon. Whichever team wins the semi-final will face the winner of Silvernagle v. Anderson on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Team Silvernagle defeated Team Anderson in the second draw 9-7, while Team Streifel defeated Team Holland 7-6 in the eighth.
