Regina MLA Trent Wotherspoon is taking over as the interim leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

Cam Broten stepped down as leader a week after the election after failing to secure his own seat in Saskatoon Westview.

On Friday, the party announced that Wotherspoon has been elected to lead the official opposition.

The representative for Regina Rosemont had run in the last leadership race in March 2013. He came in third behind Broten and Dr. Ryan Meili.
