Lloydminster’s Gold Horse Casino set for Dec. 21 opening

Dec 14, 2018 | 8:00 AM

Lloydminster’s first and the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority’s (SIGA) newest casino will open it’s doors to the public on Dec. 21 at 9 a.m.

A formal grand opening is expected to occur sometime in 2019.

The project, which broke ground last June, will be the seventh casino for SIGA and share in the organization’s profit distribution model. This involves sending 50 per cent of all profits to First Nation communities in the province, 25 per cent towards local initiatives and 25 per cent with the provincial government.

The 33,750 square foot project will include around 250 popular slot machines, electronic and live table games, alongside a deli, sports bar and grill, an events centre, among other facilities.

According to the organization’s website, the operation will “provide long-term employment and incomes for over 140 people at all skill levels.”

“It will foster regional economic growth by drawing on local suppliers, supporting spin-off businesses and attracting customers to Lloydminster’s restaurants and retail outlets,” the website states.

The  $20 million facility will run in partnership with the Border Tribal Council, who are the facility landlords and will incorporate the Community Development Corporation, Little Pine First Nation, who are the landowners and entered into the municipal service agreement with the city, and SIGA, which is owned by the Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations, who act as the casino operator.
