The brief taste of freedom for an escaped convict from the Saskatchewan Penitentiary is over.

In a very short post alongside a graphic reading "Recapture of Inmate" on the Correctional Service Canada (CSC) Facebook page Sunday evening, the agency said, "escaped Saskatchewan Penitentiary inmate Steven Briggs was apprehended."

The post gave no further details regarding exactly when and where he was apprehended.

Briggs' escaped on New Year's Eve from the minimum security unit. The 24-year-old had stolen a Corrections Canada pick-up truck and was spotted driving it in broad daylight the following day in the Yorkton area.
