Pelican Lake woman charged with second-degree murder

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of a 39-year-old man near Spiritwood this week. 

Donya Hope Lewis of the Pelican Lake First Nation made her first court appearance on the charge in Spiritwood Tuesday. Spiritwood RCMP say they were called to a residence on the Pelican Lake First Nation Monday for a report of an altercation between a man and woman. Nathan James Bill, also of the Pelican Lake First Nation, was found deceased at the scene. Police say Lewis and Bill were in a relationship. 

RCMP Major Crimes Unit North, North Battleford Forensic Identification Section, and blood pattern analysts from Edmonton are assisting with the investigation. An autopsy will be conducted in Saskatoon today.

Lewis made her first court appearance in Spiritwood Provincial Court this morning. Her next court appearance will be Feb. 12 in Spiritwood Provincial Court.
