Day three 2019 Meridian Canadian Open preview

Jan 10, 2019 | 8:00 AM

Following a much anticipated second day of action at the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling: Meridian Canadian Open, another jam packed day at the Civic Centre lies ahead.

Off at 8 a.m. is the hometown rink of Robyn Silvernagle. The North Battleford rink won a tight game, which wasn’t indicated by the score whatsoever Wednesday in their opening draw of the tournament.

After a back and forth start, the rink took advantage of Tracy Fleury and her rink’s slight mistakes, scoring a triple in the seventh end. It put a stranglehold on the game, which was conceded by Fleury with just one rock to throw.

The team will be up against American Nina Roth, who defeated Kerri Einarson earlier on in the day to set the matchup.

Also on the ice is Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg up against the Alberta rink of Chelsea Carey. Both rinks enter with a single loss in the tournament.

It will be a European matchup on sheet C, as Switzerland’s Silvia Tirinzoni faces off against Stockholm’s Isabella Wrana. Edmonton’s Laura Walker will take on Switzerland’s Briar Stern and Ottawa’s Rachel Homan plays Winnipeg’s Darcy Roberston.

The 11:30 draw sees an all Manitoba match with Braden Calvert’s rink looking to steal a win from Reid Carruthers, while Scott McDonald’s rink takes on Brad Gushue. Ontario’s Glenn Howard will face Scottland’s Bruce Mouat, while Edmonton’s Brendan Bottcher is up against Switzerland’s Benoit De Cruz. Another Manitoba match will see Gimli’s Kerri Einarson taking on East St. Paul’sTracy Fleury.
