Scheidegger shines, Howard and Gushue qualify in late Friday draw
Casey Scheidegger’s rink has qualified for the quarterfinals at the 2019 Meridian Canadian Open after a 6-4 seven end win over Winnipeg’s Tracey Fleury.
The 2017 champion found herself in action Friday night after a one-point lead heading into the eighth end during the 11:30 a.m. draw was erased when Nina Roth scored two to secure the win.
It put the Lethbridge-based rink in a need-to-win situation, the same place they found themselves the last time they were here.
“We are just trying to play consistent and we are really excited to be able to qualify,” she said, adding it was a major goal of their’s coming in. “We have our provincials in a couple weeks so the extra games are definitely a benefit.”
