Let the Good Times Roll

November 8, 2018 - 1:50pm

It’s cold out there.

In Edmonton where Jason Maas appears to have won a stay of execution, probably in hopes of retaining Mike Reilly, the Eskimos shiver on the outside looking in, ready to abandon their locker room to whatever team shows up in three weeks to contest the Grey Cup.

Only one question, okay, maybe more than one question, left to be answered on CFL final weekend.

November 2, 2018 - 9:56am

When the Riders were say, 3-4 and looking to jettison the aspiring defensive back Duron Carter, it seemed the Rider season was threatening to circle around a drain of despair and disillusionment so profound it would have made Game of Thrones look like a barbecue cooking show.

The Riders Make a Statement Against the Stamps

October 22, 2018 - 1:15pm

The Saskatchewan Roughriders refused to fold with three games left in the season with a 29-24 win against the Calgary Stampeders that might have turned their 2018 season around.

The Riders limped into Calgary following a 31-0 blowout at the hands of the God Less Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and just for good measure, news came out of defensive end Charleston Hughes being charged for refusing to provide a breath sample after being found passed out on the Ring Road prior to the Winnipeg game.

The Road to the Grey Cup just got a lot more interesting

October 15, 2018 - 9:44am

That thud heard somewhere in the middle of where dreams go to die on Saturday could very well have been the Grey Cup hopes of the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

The 31-0 disaster in Dollarama Stadium where the Winnipeg Blue Bombers dropped the Riders record to 10-6, still the second best record in the league, but which exposed the Riders as a team which relies on its defense and special teams to bail out its offense. Then there are games when the Riders offense is so bad, not even an Act of God can help them out.

Get Ready for a Mass Extinction Event

October 4, 2018 - 11:52am

If you were as nauseated as I was listening to Rod Black gush over Johnny Manziel last Sunday, well, spare a thought for the fans of the Montreal Alouettes.

They are the subjects of some kind of weird S&M experiment by the Montreal braintrust to determine how much abuse a fan base can take before they finally snap and take in, uh, a jazz festival or two.

Riders Get Lucky

September 27, 2018 - 11:30am

There is a sports cliché that sometimes teams need to win ugly at times if they are going to get to a championship. Not all wins are what would be regarded as aesthetic triumphs, but the 2018 version of the Saskatchewan Roughriders with a good defense that has its lapses, special team’s that have been consistently good with returns for touchdowns and an offense that, when is mediocre, maybe gives the Riders a chance.

The Riders’ 30-29 win gave them a step up on their competition in the west with Montreal coming up this week.
